Wasserman Schultz Announces 2026 Reelection Run in FL-20
She’ll leverage her experience and clout to deliver for Broward County.
Washington DC – Today, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced she is running for re-election in FL-20, pledging to leverage her strong experience and leadership ties to help deliver the most for families that struggle with high gas, housing, and grocery prices in Broward County. In her video announcement, she is joined by just some of the notable leaders who live, serve and grew up in District 20, and who proudly support her campaign.
“I’ve fought for the people of Broward County my whole adult life, and you’ve always been able to count on me to deliver results for our community,” said Wasserman Schultz. “And I’ve waged these battles when our values were on the line, all while still raising a family, beating cancer, and answering President Barack Obama’s call to lead our national party. So today, I’m announcing my candidacy for re-election in Congressional District 20, because we cannot let Trump destroy Broward County’s power. And we know Republicans couldn’t care less about lowering your healthcare, gas, or grocery bills. But I’ll use all my seniority and influence in Washington to continue to make our lives more affordable, and make Broward a safer, less expensive place to live, raise a family and retire. This District deserves a representative who won’t be learning on the job and has a proven record of results.”
In her distinguished career in Congress and the Florida Legislature, Wasserman Schultz has represented most every part of Broward County, and nine of the 14 cities in District 20. She won election in her current majority-minority District 25 seat in 2022. Recently, Governor DeSantis and Republican leaders violated our State Constitution by drawing an overtly partisan map, with total disregard for the Fair Districts Constitutional amendments, which passed by a 63% margin.
Republicans triggered this national gerrymander frenzy in the face of horrific public polling that shows President Trump and the GOP agenda are historically unpopular. Their tactic to rig the mid-terms was an attempt to weaken the most effective Democratic leaders in Congress.
Wasserman Schultz is one of those widely respected leaders. President Obama appointed her to lead the Democratic National Committee. Over multiple terms, House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn also appointed Wasserman Schultz as a Chief Deputy Whip, to help pass critical bills. In the past two terms of Congress, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries tapped her to be a Co-Chair of the influential Steering & Policy Committee, which directs Caucus strategy and Member committee assignments. She’s also a long-time senior member and subcommittee Ranking Member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which controls the budget of the entire country and the vital funding decisions for South Florida residents and all Americans.
Just some of the local leaders who support Wasserman Schultz were included in her announcement video. More will be released in the coming weeks. Included in this first video are community leaders and District 20 residents:
