Wasserman Schultz Applauds Biden Venezuelan TPS Redesignation

Washington, September 20, 2023

President Biden issued a landmark order to re-designate Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans in the United States. This decision will allow Venezuelan migrants who are already here to attain legal status and secure authorization to work and make a secure life for themselves and their families.

Washington, DC — Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-25), Co-Chair of the Congressional Venezuela Democracy Caucus, issued the following statement:

“Today, President Biden issued a landmark order to re-designate Temporary Protected Status for Venezuelans in the United States. This decision will allow Venezuelan migrants who are already here to attain legal status and secure authorization to work and make a secure life for themselves and their families. I am deeply grateful for President Biden’s compassionate, pragmatic leadership in response to the largest displacement crisis in the Western Hemisphere, driven by a cruel and neglectful dictator.

As a Member of Congress representing one of the largest Venezuelan populations in the U.S., I’m thrilled for my Venezuelan friends and neighbors in South Florida, who have been integral to the fight for justice and equal access to the American dream; and proud to have fought by their side for years to secure this victory. I look forward to working with President Biden and bipartisan colleagues in Florida and across the country to ensure that all eligible Venezuelan migrants get access to the resources they need to begin this next chapter.”
