Washington, D.C. — U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) issued the following statement in recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month:


“The immense contributions Hispanics make to this nation are, to this day, too often undervalued or ignored, a pattern of disregard that echoes throughout American history. 

Yet from the resilience of our economy, to keeping us all faithful to our founding principles of freedom, opportunity and equality, we all owe deep political debts to the hard work and principled activism of generations of Hispanic Americans, including the current one.

As we begin to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month today, let us honor that rich history, culture, and legacy of contributions. And let’s all draw strength from the powerful and inspiring examples of courage, innovation, artistry and effort that the Hispanic Community has given to allow America’s grand experiment in democracy to thrive.

From the COVID-19 medical front lines to the nation’s most critical labor and immigration fights, our Hispanic communities are tough and compassionate. Every day, they hold America true to its promise of creating a more perfect union. For that, I will always fight for the rights, respect, and resources that all our Hispanic communities deserve, this and every month.”
