Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) chairs the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee and she released the following statement on Veterans Day:“Today we honor all those who served this nation to defend our freedom, and take the time to show our gratitude to them for their selflessness. Our democracy is stronger because of their heroic service, so on Veterans Day we must uphold our commitment to these patriots who have given so much of themselves for all of us, every single day, in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, Merchant Marine, National Guard and Reserves.  “We must not be content by simply thanking veterans for their service. I’m proud that our Democratic Majority in the House has secured strong funding for mental health and suicide prevention programs, homeless assistance initiatives and expanded health care access for women Veterans. We passed more than two dozen bills on the floor, including legislation that provides tax fairness to military families. And our work is not done.We must remain committed to providing the benefits and resources these brave women and men have earned, and never waver in our support for the care, education and job opportunities they need to transition into civilian life. Repaying the sacrifice of servicemembers means ensuring every veteran has the chance to return home to all that America promises.”
