Rep. Wasserman Schultz statement on extending voter registration in Florida

“Thanks to the Florida Democratic Party’s refusal to take no for an answer, Floridians have at least one more day to register to vote,” said Debbie Wasserman Schultz.” Governor Scott still owes Floridians an answer why he had to be forced to extend the deadline, refusing to follow the example of Nikki Haley and other Republican governors who have extended voting in their states when hurricanes have struck – so this conversation isn’t over. But this important ruling is a step in the right direction and I look forward to Judge Mark Walker’s hearing on Wednesday. Wednesday is Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, so an extension for additional days will be critical. Judge Walker has done the right thing for democracy, and I thank my Florida Democratic Congressional Colleagues who joined me in urging Governor Scott to extend this deadline in the wake of Hurricane Matthew.”
