DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s Statement Honoring Veterans Day
DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement honoring Veterans Day:
“Today, we honor the incredible bravery of all of America’s veterans, who have sacrificed so much to protect the rights and freedoms that define who we are as a nation. Their courage and sacrifice know no bounds, and for that we owe them not only our gratitude, but also the promise that we will always serve them as well as they have served us.
“President Obama has always understood that fundamental commitment and has worked hard on behalf of our nation’s veterans—from expanding educational opportunities for our servicemen and women and helping them find work when they return home, to securing the largest increase in VA funding in decades so our veterans are able to obtain the health care and benefits they earned, including treatment for PTSD and traumatic brain injury. We are also proud to say that the President responsibly ended the war in Iraq and brought our troops home, has a plan to end the war in Afghanistan in 2014, and wiped the discriminatory ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy off the books so our service members can serve their country regardless of whom they love.
“This Veterans Day, we recognize the important progress we’ve made in honoring those who have fought for their country, but we also know there is more to be done. And we can say without a moment’s hesitation that in President Obama’s second term, he will continue to build on that progress—fighting for all of America’s veterans.”
