Wasserman Schultz Praises Institute of Medicine Recommendations for Women

Today, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz made the following statement about new preventive women’s health care services as part of the Affordable Care Act:

“I am so pleased that the Administration has adopted these historic and wide-ranging services from the Institute of Medicine recommendations,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20). “Now women will receive preventive health services at no additional cost, which is a spectacular example of how the Affordable Care Act will turn our nation’s sick care system into a health care system.

Specifically, I am thrilled that this Administration has recognized the need for all American women to have access to quality, affordable health care and will require new health insurance plans to cover annual visits, breastfeeding support and supplies, domestic violence and important screenings and counseling, as well as contraceptives, which will be offered without a co-payment or deductible. From nutrition to gynecologic health to childbearing, women face many health issues during the course of our lives that are very different from men – and require special coverage and attention. With the adoption of these recommendations, President Obama and his Administration have once again demonstrated a continued commitment to the health and security of American women.”
