Rep. Wasserman Schultz Praises President’s Deficit Reduction Plan

WASHINGTON – Earlier today President Obama laid out his deficit reduction plan. The following is a statement from Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20):

“President Obama’s plan for economic growth and reducing our country’s deficit lays out a blueprint for how we can create an environment where businesses can hire more workers, middle-class families can make ends meet, and we can start paying down our debt.

“In addition to the American Jobs Act the President has already sent to Congress, this deficit reduction plan includes $320 billion in health care savings, which will strengthen Medicare and Medicaid by reducing wasteful spending and help to improve the quality of overall care.

“As I’ve said before, I agree that we need comprehensive tax reform, especially when it comes to the wealthiest Americans and corporations paying their fair share. The plan the President has sent to the Joint Committee calls for lowering tax rates and cutting wasteful loopholes and tax breaks for big corporations who have said they don’t need them. It also reduces the deficit by $1.5 trillion, while also asking those who make more than $1 million a year to pay the same tax rates as middle-class families. And best of all, the plan creates jobs. This is what we need to move our country forward and get back on the path to prosperity, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to call on the Joint Committee to support this plan.”
