Wasserman Schultz Appointed to House Leadership Positions
Today, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was appointed to two senior positions in the U.S. House Democratic leadership.
In the 112th Congress Rep. Wasserman Schultz will serve as a Vice Chair of the Minority’s Steering and Policy Committee, a promotion from her prior role as a member of the committee. She was also appointed to continue to serve as a Chief Deputy Whip in the Office of the Minority Whip.
“I am honored to have the support and confidence of my Democratic colleagues,” said Rep. Wasserman Schultz (FL-20). “I look forward to working hard on behalf of my constituents and the Caucus as we continue our work to turn the economy around and improve the lives of every American family.”
The Steering & Policy Committee, which is designed to formulate and promote strategies for success in the 112th Congress, is composed of two Co-Chairs, two Vice Chairs, 12 regional representatives and 24 regional whips. Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz, as a Vice Chair, will be in a leadership position to advocate for the middle class, small business owners, and increasing American manufacturing. The focus of the committee will be to create jobs and improve the economy over the next two years.
The Minority Whip’s office assists the Democratic leadership in managing the Party’s legislative program on the House floor. The Whip team keeps track of all legislation and ensures that all Party members are present when important measures are to be voted upon.
