South Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has been selected vice chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, a step that gives her a more prominent role as a young up-and-coming spokeswoman for the party.
The Weston Democrat, age 42, was one of four vice chairs selected at the DNCs winter meeting in Washington.
Wassserman Schultz’ specific duties have not been outlined, but she is expected to develop her growing role as the partys face and voice. For several years, party leaders have looked to her to project the image via the news media of a young mother of three who looks out for the interests of younger generations.
The DNC also selected Donna Brazile as vice chairwoman for voter registration. Linda Chavez-Thompson and Mike Honda were re-elected as vice chairs.
The party also formally selected President Obamas choice for DNC chairman: Virginia Governor Tim Kaine, who replaces Howard Dean.
