Statement on the President’s State of the Union address
WASHINGTON– Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz released the following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union address Tuesday night:
“The President shared his blueprint for putting our country back on the path toward prosperity,” said Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz. “He laid out a plan for an economy that’s built to last – an economy built on American manufacturing, American energy, skills for American workers, and a renewal of American values.
“We must heed his words and continue working to find solutions to meet the challenges that Americans face – no matter where they live or what their background is. The desire to move all of America forward, not just a select few, is a common value that unites us.
“The housing crisis has hit South Florida hard, and we have many homeowners who are struggling to make mortgage payments and avoid foreclosure. The President is committed to helping homeowners across the country refinance and find a way to stay in their homes. He is also asking the Attorney General to expand investigations into abusive lending and risky mortgages, so that we can be sure to turn the page on an era of recklessness that hurt so many Americans.”
“We cannot go back to an economy based on outsourcing, bad debt, and fabricated financial profits. I look forward to working with my colleagues to pass legislation that keeps our country moving forward and rebuilding our economy so that everyone who works hard has a fair shot at the American Dream.”
