Wasserman Schultz ‘proud’ to represent South Florida, hopes for another term
Most of the attention that U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Weston, gets these days is because of her role as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, a job that puts her frequently on TV advocating for the party and President Barack Obama.
Wasserman Schultz said Wednesday that in no way lessens her interest in serving as a member of Congress from South Florida.
She’s committed to seeking a fifth term. There’s a “100 percent chance” that she’s running.
Not that anyone would have any reason to doubt her intentions, but a conservative blogger speculated on Wednesday she “may not seek another term in Congress.”
That’s nonsense, she said. I asked her about it during a phone interview Wednesday morning for an article on another subject.
“I am proud to represent this community. There’s nothing that makes me more proud professionally than representing this community,” she said. “I am running for re-election and look forward to earning the support of my constituents.”
Wasserman Schultz, incidentally, got a pretty good shout out from Obama on Tuesday. He called her “my great friend,” as he noted guests at his campaign-style rally at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.
