Wasserman Schultz Celebrates LGBT Pride Month
This June we have so much to celebrate for Pride 2021.
(Sunrise, FL) – U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) issued the following statement today in celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month:
“This June we have so much to celebrate for Pride 2021. The previous Administration put the full force of government behind denying human rights to the queer community, but thanks to tireless work by LGBTQ+ activists, we now have proud allies in the White House, and carry powerful gavels in the U.S. House and Senate. And in less than six short months, we’ve made tremendous strides to repair the damage done over the past four years.
While we have certainly earned the right to pause and laud our successes, we must also use Pride Month to educate those who would discriminate against Americans because of who they are or who they love, and take this time to honor the rich diversity of LGBTQ+ families. At home and globally, there’s much work to be done to convince hearts and minds to choose love over hate. This Pride Month, I am proud to stand with the LGBTQ+ community in the fight to make the United States a more just and equal nation, and to defend those rights wherever and whenever they are threatened around the globe.”
