Wasserman Schultz: Return Stolen Military Funds
Washington, September 17, 2019 “The Administration should immediately return this stolen money to fund the infrastructure projects that the military requested and are essential for our readiness and military families.”
(Washington D.C.) — U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) released the following statement based on a recent court filing that indicates the Department of Defense will not move forward on three previously planned border wall projects due to an inability to cover the costs. The Congresswoman chairs the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee:
“The Trump Administration should halt this wasteful, dangerous bait and switch game, immediately drop this boondoggle border wall project, and return this stolen money to fund the vital infrastructure projects that the military requested and are essential for our readiness and servicemembers’ quality of life. This Administration is recklessly spending military funds on a border wall that they carelessly planned for, and we now see, can’t even afford. Military families and national security should not suffer because of Trump’s hasty, careless attempt to pander to his nativist base. This latest project reversal is another example of why Congress, on a bipartisan basis, rejected this foolhardy use of funds, and will not support allowing Trump to hurt our servicemembers and their families. It is clear this wall is too expensive and unworkable.”
