Wasserman Schultz, Kaine Call on Trump Administration to Restore Vital Medical Resource
Today, Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-23) and Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) sent a bicameral letter to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar, signed by 52 of their House and Senate colleagues, questioning the Trump Administration’s decision to eliminate the National Guideline Clearinghouse (NGC) website, www.Guideline.gov. For the past 20 years, the NGC database has provided evidence-based best practices for treating common medical conditions to clinicians and patients at no cost.
“The Trump Administration’s latest attack on access to quality, affordable health care is part of a disturbing pattern,” said Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz. “As a breast cancer survivor, I know how important it is to ensure that patient care is guided by the latest medical advances. It’s time for the Trump Administration to reverse this dangerous decision and restore access to the research and information that allows doctors to provide patients with the quality of care they deserve.”
“The National Guideline Clearinghouse helps physicians and other health care professionals provide their patients with high quality care,” said Senator Kaine. “After supporting a $2 trillion tax bill that exploded the deficit to give a tax cut to the wealthy, the Administration needs to offer a better explanation than just budget cuts to explain why it decided to shutter this important program.”
