Congresswoman Met with Seniors About Health Care
Rep. Wasserman Schultz held a town hall with local seniors to discuss the Republican vote to end Medicare
PLANTATION, Fla. – Medicare and Social Security are vital programs for South Florida’s seniors. But since January, House Republicans have tried to make changes to both of these programs, including voting on plans that would end Medicare as we know it.
On Friday, September 2, Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) spoke with seniors in Plantation, Fla. about the need to keep these programs viable because the reason they were created was to protect seniors and guarantee access to quality health care that fits their budget.
Congresswoman Wasserman Schultz talked about how the Affordable Care Act caps out-of-pocket expenses, even for private insurance plans, and works to close the donut hole completely over the next nine years, saving seniors more than $3,000 a year in drug costs.
Joining Wasserman Schultz at the event were representatives from the Social Security Administration, Senior Medicare Patrol and Serving the Health Information Needs of Elders (SHINE).
