Statement on Death of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi
Washington – Today Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (FL-20) released the following statement regarding the death of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi:
“Today’s news of Colonel Muammar Qaddafi’s death marks the end of an era of terror and oppression in Libya.
“Along with a broad international coalition, the U.S.-led NATO mission answered the call from the Libyan people to put an end to the atrocities Qaddafi had waged on his people for far too long. Now, without the loss of a single American service member, a humanitarian crisis has been averted, and the people of Libya have the opportunity to build a free society.
“I thank all of the brave men and women who have dedicated themselves to this mission over the last eight months, and I am grateful to President Obama for his leadership, demonstrating once again that the United States stood with people fighting to cast off tyranny.
“Today, as the Libyan people continue their difficult work toward democratic government and fair elections, we pledge our renewed commitment to helping them achieve the full extent of democracy they have fought for and that all people deserve.”
